UPDATE 7-13-11 (Read original post below)I contacted the publisher. He told me that they were aware of the binding problem and
that the first printing had yielded a defective batch. With no questions asked, he was very
helpful and is allowing me to mail in my book for an exchange.
I mailed him (Richard at Insight Editions publishing) my copy though USPS with the book
rate ($3.64) today. Once he receives my copy he will mail me a new book. Success!!!
(If you got one of the defective copies, I suggest you contact them)

"Exceptional Book! TERRIBLE BINDING!!" (1 out of 5 stars)
* The book is amazing.
* The artwork is outstanding.
* The book WILL quickly fall apart. Such a shame.
This book is filled with beautiful concept art, and I was totally enjoying it, until it started falling apart.
I just noticed a few other posts with the same issue. The first several pages are hanging by threads. I
missed the cutoff date for a full exchange or refund, but I might contact the publisher.

The story, cast and film like cool was great. I especially enjoyed the way they took film like camera work and added it into an animated feature. I loved the style!
Took the book out of the plastic wrap and was mildly surprised to find the exact same binding problem I had read about! Mine is pretty manageable though, luckily enough.
Really stunning collection of artwork behind one of the weirdest (and awesome) films I've recently seen! Love the weight and texture of the book, all the pages are top quality, and there's some great commentary from the artists behind the work. Fantastic addition to my collection, I do not regret buying it one bit!

I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the images--the gorgeous artwork and character design--as well as the writing. However, I was left wanting much more. For a film that is so distinctly different looking than all of the other big name CG animated American films, I was really hoping for a bit more about the efforts they put into making this film so surreal and gritty and somewhat photo-real. I wish they went a teeny bit more technical with the texturing and such used on the characters, simply because it was gorgeously disgusting. I know that they needed to keep the book accessible to people who aren't in the CG industry/familiar with CG jargon, but this would have been a great place to introduce it.
If you're a fan of the movie this is a great detailed movie book about ideas from behind the scenes and concept art. You get to see how your favorite Rango characters evolved into what you saw on screen. The art is great if you like ugly characters. It's one of the things I liked that these aren't typical cute cuddly furry animals. Yet they still retain enough realism you can identify what they are. Lovely art and beautiful desert backgrounds.
